What does enterprise technology mean? It means different things to different people. For the most part it is how corporate IT classifies applications that are used internally by many people for business critical functions. Often times these enterprise applications interact with corporate legacy databases and systems and often require system architects to design and maintain.
Additionally systems such as corporate email can be classified as enterprise solutions. Eventually Web 2.0 social-like applications will make their way into corporations and be labeled Enterprise 2.0. Many companies are struggling with social networking both internally and externally. Progressive companies will leverage both Web 2.0 solutions externally and Enterprise 2.0 solutions internally. It's a new revolution. In fact, I would even suggest that it's a modern day business gold rush. Don't get left behind!
So what's next?
